While we were in NZ’s winter, it was a tough choice on whether we should weather out the cool and rainy or return to the hottest summer on record in the USA. After getting our van back, we definitely felt the urge to head out of the heat in the USA and into Canada, so we didn’t spend much time in the USA on our way out. We did manage to stop and see some family in southern Oregon, where the smoke there was near its worst. Then, because we are looking for new places to live and I wanted to check out Bend, OR, we made a stop there. Must say, it was quite surprising to see kayaking and surfing right in the middle of town.
I must say it was also nice to be back in a country with plenty of mammals.
Then, since Jonathan had never been to Seattle and I wanted to stock up on some spices, we stopped at Pike Place Market. Driving through Seattle made us realize we probably didn’t want to live there, but it was an interesting visit.
Since we were there so early, we had most of the underground shops to ourselves.
Always so many flowers in Seattle.
For you Starbucks fans, the first and oldest store is located on Pike Place.
There was a long line for these, and I remembered people raving about it last time I visited, so we took an early lunch.
While only an hour or two from the border, I wasn’t yet prepared for crossing into Canada (I hadn’t read up on where we wanted to go, etc.). We called it an early day, which was probably for the best after navigating through those Seattle roads and traffic. We found a National Forest campground and prepared for crossing the border first thing in the morning.
I found a massive slug in the toilet at the campground!
